Gubernatorial Accountability

by Josh at 10:17 pm

I went to a GBIO meeting tonight for the first time in a while and I’ll be collecting more signatures Saturday morning.  More signatures need to be collected to keep the ballot initiative running.  The main concern remaining with the health care initiative is the individual mandate and the definition of “affordable” now that every [...]

Bus Marathon

by Josh at 9:48 am

The T Riders Union in Boston is co-sponsoring a great publicity stunt this Tuesday to protest poor bus service. On the day after the Boston Marathon, 25 bus riders will ride 7 bus routes for the amount of time that it took Monday’s Marathon winner to run 26 miles. Riders will be wearing [...]

Health care bill finally released

by Josh at 10:43 pm

It seemed like whenever I posted that a bill was soon to come, there were delays. And, sure enough, when I don’t post anything, the bill actually comes out. It’s really interesting to see how much goes in to drawing up a bill like this one. The process took forever and was [...]

Final Compromise Bill Today… Hopefully

by Josh at 7:50 am

Last I heard, the House/Senate compromise bill is supposed to be released today.  Then we’ll see what’s actually in it.
To follow up on some of the points from my previous post, both Amy Ridenour and Malcolm Gladwell emailed me back.  Amy Ridenour noted that she didn’t know much about what was going on in Massachusetts [...]

New health care bill

by Josh at 3:55 pm

I got an email from the GBIO main office last week about the final health care legislation set to be released by the health care conference committee tomorrow.  The email also said that a memo from Health Care For All would be posted on the GBIO web site this weekend outlining what is believed to [...]

Health care heating up

by Josh at 10:23 pm

It seemed like after we had stopped collecting signatures, that the issue of health care just faded away.  We knew that the House had crafted a bill that was similar in many points to the ballot initiative, but that the senate had not been as receptive.  That was months ago.
A couple weeks ago, the talk [...]

GBIO in the news

by Josh at 10:31 am

Boston.com, after running several articles about health care reform, has finally published one specifically about GBIO and our involvement in the health care debate that’s going on. The article focuses specificly on Rev. Hurmon Hamiltion and Rabbi Jonah Pesner who together wrote an op-ed piece on health care in August. The article looks [...]

Health Care: The Dark Side

by Josh at 10:09 am

The Globe ran an article yesterday telling the story of someone who will get smacked, at least initially, by health care reform. It’s fair to know the true cost of what’s being proposed. The article also offers a brief rebuttal from Health Care for All.
The question comes down to this, really: How [...]

The final numbers are in

by Josh at 9:20 pm

GBIO collected 42,000 signatures for the MassACT ballot initiative, surpassing our goal. We still don’t know what the final tally will be including all partner organizations and the signatures still need to be certified by the Secretary of State.
Of course, the greater victory is that a couple thousand people out on the streets collecting [...]

Victory!

by Josh at 9:27 am

Just before midnight last night, the House passed the health care bill by an overwhelming majority (131-22). Now on the Senate where it’s expected to meet opposition.
