Paying down your debt is questionable activity

by Josh at 2:23 pm

Thanks to Big Mike who linked to this story.  It’s truly unbelievable.

Appaently, aggressively paying down your credit card debt is so unamerican that it warrants a red flag at the Department of Homeland Security.  That’s right, paying down your debt might be a sign that you’re a terrorist.

Two things strike me about this story.  First of all, there’s a privacy issue here and we have to question why it’s the government’s business when you want to pay off your credit card.  Second: In some ways, this constitutes active govenment discouragement of aggressive debt repayment.  Make too big of a payement and your private affairs need to be investigated.  One might think that the US government wants people to stay in debt.
