Health care heating up
by Josh at 10:23 pmIt seemed like after we had stopped collecting signatures, that the issue of health care just faded away. We knew that the House had crafted a bill that was similar in many points to the ballot initiative, but that the senate had not been as receptive. That was months ago.
A couple weeks ago, the talk of health care in the state legislature seemed dead. Last week, Adrian Walker, a Globe columnist, wrote about a last ditch measure that passed with no significant reforms–thrown together just to insure $385 million in federal funding.
Then this week everything happened.
A mid-week rally at the State House got the legislature talking again. This past Thursday night, I went to a GBIO delegate assembly where people prepared to make phone calls to senators (will be happening this Monday) and to collect more signatures (117 is not enough apparently; as Rev. Ray Hammond said: no good deed goes unpunished.)
But things are beginning to happen and the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization is getting some credit for it. I’m a little disappointed about being away the coming week since there looks to be a lot going on. Maybe I’ll monitor the progress from afar.
If any are curoius what this measure is all about. Eileen McNamara wrote a great column in today’s column about why the reforms specific to the ballot initiative are necessary.
