New Yorker on Narnia

by Josh at 10:39 am

There’s an interesting article in the New Yorker that has helped me sort out some of the thoughts that I’ve been having about Narnia while rereading the books. Adam Gopnik presents some interesting tidbits from Lewis’s life that help illuminate some of the odder moments in the books. For example, Lewis’s obvious hatred [...]

Health Care: The Dark Side

by Josh at 10:09 am

The Globe ran an article yesterday telling the story of someone who will get smacked, at least initially, by health care reform. It’s fair to know the true cost of what’s being proposed. The article also offers a brief rebuttal from Health Care for All.
The question comes down to this, really: How [...]

The final numbers are in

by Josh at 9:20 pm

GBIO collected 42,000 signatures for the MassACT ballot initiative, surpassing our goal. We still don’t know what the final tally will be including all partner organizations and the signatures still need to be certified by the Secretary of State.

Yup, I went to the gastroenterologist today for my followup appointment and he said that I have to stay on the restricted diet for SIX MONTHS. He said that I could phase [...]

Just before midnight last night, the House passed the health care bill by an overwhelming majority (131-22). Now on the Senate where it’s expected to meet opposition.

Health care continues to be a hot item

by Josh at 9:30 pm

Lawmakers in Massachusetts are still trying to craft a health care bill to cover almost all of those who are uninsured and employers are still complaining. The Globe, meanwhile, continues to editorialize in favor of the bill being proposed even as some of the details are being ironed out. I’m expecting to hear [...]

Nostalgia, or Ode to RaTol and KWM

by Susannah at 10:54 pm

“On the whole, I do not find Christians, outside of the catacombs, sufficiently sensible of conditions. Does anyone have the foggiest idea what sort of power we so blithely invoke? Or, as I suspect, does no one believe a word of it? The churches are children playing on the floor with their [...]

While I’m on the topic…

Kudos to the Globe for running an editorial in favor of the new legislation.
